Overview

The Dreyfus Corporation has engaged Fayez Sarofim & Co. to serve as the sub-investment advisor of the mutual funds listed below. Fayez Sarofim, President and Chairman of the Board, is the primary portfolio manager of all of these funds. In addition, Charles Sheedy, Christopher Sarofim and Catherine Crain serve on the portfolio management team. Our partnership with Dreyfus has enabled Fayez Sarofim & Co. to offer our investing style to a broader universe of investors, due to the low minimum investment required and customer support offered by Dreyfus.

Dreyfus Appreciation Fund

Fayez Sarofim & Co. has been the sub-investment advisor to this fund for Dreyfus since 1990. The Appreciation Fund has over $3 billion in assets and is managed using the same investment philosophy we employ for our institutional accounts. This no-load fund has a minimum investment of $2,500 ($750 for IRAs) and can be added to in increments of as low as $100. This fund is consistently recognized for its long track record of competitive performance, tax efficiency and relatively low fees.

Dreyfus Premier Worldwide Growth Fund

Fayez Sarofim & Co. has been the sub-investment advisor to this fund since 1993. The Dreyfus Premier Worldwide Growth Fund is also managed under the same Sarofim investment philosophy but looks outside the U.S. market for potential investments. This global fund normally invests at least 25% of its assets in foreign companies and is appropriate for those investors looking for exposure to foreign as well as domestic companies. The Dreyfus Premier Fund Family, of which Premier Worldwide Growth is a member, are "load" funds and typically must be purchased through a third party, such as a bank, broker-dealer or financial advisor, or in a 401(k) or other retirement plan. Dreyfus Premier Tax Managed Growth Fund

Fayez Sarofim & Co. has been the sub-investment advisor to this fund since 1997. While this fund is also managed under the FS&Co. investment philosophy, its goals and approach include an explicit tax managed strategy. The Fund proactively seeks to minimize realized capital gains and taxable investment income for investors, while providing long-term capital growth. The Dreyfus Premier Funds are "load" funds and typically must be purchased through a third party, such as a bank, broker-dealer or financial advisor, or in a 401(k) or other retirement plan. This fund has a minimum investment of $1,000 and can be added to in increments of as low as $100. The Dreyfus Premier Tax Managed Growth Fund is appropriate for those investors who desire the Sarofim investment style and are looking for an additional level of tax efficiency.

Dreyfus Premier Core Equity Fund

Fayez Sarofim & Co. has been the sub-investment advisor to this fund since 1998. Formerly known as the Dreyfus Tax Smart Fund, this fund changed its name in April, 2002 to better reflect that the fund is managed similarly to the Appreciation Fund and is appropriate for those investors who are more comfortable investing through a financial advisor. The Dreyfus Premier Funds are “load” funds and typically must be purchased through a third party, such as a bank, broker-dealer or financial advisor, or in a 401(k) or other retirement plan. This fund has a minimum investment of $1,000 and can be added to in increments of as low as $100.

Dreyfus Variable Investment Fund – Appreciation Portfolio

Fayez Sarofim & Co. has been the sub-investment advisor to this portfolio since 1992. Portfolio shares are offered only to separate accounts established by insurance companies to fund variable annuity contracts and variable life insurance policies. Individuals may not purchase shares directly from, or place sell orders directly with, the portfolio. The variable annuity contracts and the variable life insurance policies are described in separate prospectuses issued by the participating insurance companies. The Portfolio has a minimum investment of $5,000 and can be added to in increments of as low as $100. The Appreciation Portfolio is an insurance product that is managed similarly to the Dreyfus Appreciation Fund.
